eBook Guide - Tips & Answers to eBook Questions
- Open Reader eBooks
The best, most economical, most powerful and most user-friendly "eBook Reader" is your desktop or notebook computer. There is no need for special equipment to enjoy the endless benefits of eBooks.
Amazon, Sony, and many other manufacturers tout their eBook readers, but they fail to fully disclose that purchase of their equipment will also require that you purchase eBooks from them only. By contrast, your personal or notebook computer is "Open Reader" ready, and it gives you the option to purchase your eBooks from many suppliers.
There is no need to purchase an expensive, single purpose eBook reader. Likewise, if you are considering using a hand held device (iPhone, Blackberry etc.), they pose screen size, storage, and power limitations.
The eBook industry and consumer acceptance are rapidly changing. We remain committed to offering you a wide range of titles that may be used on many different readers. And, we want to keep your reading costs low and your enjoyment high.

Transferring your eBook to a another computer varies depending on the eBook reader software and the level of copyright protection that each eBook contains. Before you transfer books between computers, make sure you authorize your eBook reader on both computers with your eBook reader user ID. Please visit the following FAQ / Support section of each e-Book reader software for more information.
11.B. Can I Print an eBook
Typically - no. However, some eBook formats (currently Adobe) will allow you to print the eBook if the publisher/author chooses to allow this.
Please note that printing an eBook is often restricted to only a few pages at a time.
11.C. Copy-Protected eBooks
Publishers or authors of eBooks decide:
- The format (Adobe Digital Editions, Microsoft, or Palm Pilot)
- Whether the eBook can be freely distributed (anyone can copy it and read it) or
- If the eBook must be encrypted for only one person to read
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. A publisher or author of an eBook, not the retailer, determines the level of restrictions to be applied to each eBook, including how many times the eBook can be downloaded for single purchase, and the number of devices to which the eBook can be transferred.
If an eBook is encrypted, or copy-protected, the eBook can only be read on authorized computers or handheld devices by authorized users. On the other hand, if an eBook is unencrypted, or not copy-protected, the eBook can be transferred to personal computers or reading devices an unlimited number of times for personal use.
11.D. What Types of eBook Formats Are Available?
eBook titles can be available in several formats, each with special software required for reading.
Currently, these are the most popular formats being carried by eBook retailers and supported on this website:
- Adobe PDF (.pdf) and ePub (.epub) for Adobe Digital Editions reader
- Microsoft Reader format (.lit)
- Palm Pilot format (.pdb) for eReader Pro reader
